Deyu Hot Spring
This is the oldest hot spring in Niigata Prefecture, dating back to the 9th century.
Legend says that Koubou Daishi hit the ground with his ceremonial staff and hot water sprang out in 809, creating the hot spring. The water still springs out at the public bath on the compound of Kehou-ji Temple today.
